news: We've been shortlisted for the CIHT's 'Sustainable Transport Award'
Monday 1st May 2017
We're proud to have been shortlisted for the prestigious CIHT 'Sustainable Transport Award', in partnership with Derby City Council, for the delivery of Connected.
Connected was an innovative engagement project to influence and support businesses and their employees to make sustainable travel choices. It was a key component of Derby’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) programme; which sought to encourage more people to walk, cycle, car share, or use public transport, or reduce their need to travel.
The project involved working with over 250 employers in the City to promote sustainable travel to their staff. Organisations we engaged over a three year period included: Severn Trent, Balfour Beatty, and Reckitt Benckiser. A dedicated adviser worked with each business to develop a tailored travel action plan comprising specific measures, such as:
- Sustainable transport grants
- Workplace challenges and events
- Discounted public transport tickets
- High quality travel information
A key strength of the project was the offer of tailored support in exchange for businesses making a commitment to undertake staff travel surveys and implement travel action plans.
In the final year, in-depth evaluation of travel data for 10 Connected workplaces indicated an average reduction in single occupancy car use of 6 percentage points. The project has demonstrated the benefits of Councils and delivery partners working in partnership to provide a clear and comprehensive offer to businesses and their staff.
Our 2017 nomination builds on ITP's previous successes for Lowestoft Local Links (CIHT winner 2013), Choose How You Move (CIHT winner 2014) and the Robin Hood Pay Card (CIHT shortlisted 2016). We'll have our fingers crossed at the awards event on the 15th June!
